Course Description: Students will practice the basics in various creative writing subjects such as play writing and poetry and in doing so will develop stronger writing and communication skills. By strengthening their creative abilities through poetry, children’s and short stories, play writing and online-journaling (blogging), they will improve their academic writing skills. Included but not limited to are skills in selecting important information and summarizing longer texts, composing complete assignments within a word or page limit and writing for various audiences and age groups.

Course Overview: The course is divided into 5 subjects over the course of 5 weeks. One subject, such as poetry, will be the focus of the week. Class time will be used to cover in depth the different forms and techniques used in writing blogs, poetry, children’s stories, short stories, and plays. Students will participate in individual and group projects weekly, highlighting their achievements from each topic. In addition, students will also create a blog, on which they will display their work and progress throughout the course.

 Grading: The course is pass/fail. An overall score of 80% is required to pass the course.
